    Siftr Terms of Service/Use?

    by msmc7 » Thu Feb 23, 2017 12:47 pm

    Hi everybody,

I've got some interest from a couple of 2nd grade classes in using Siftr for a project, but folks at the school were wondering if there were any Terms of Service or Terms of Use we could look at first. Does anyone know where I could find such a thing?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Matt

Siftr currently does not have a legal terms of service document in place. Are there specific concerns?

    Hi djgagnon,

Thanks for getting back to me!

I suppose first and foremost we're looking to learn if it's appropriate for students under 13 (or 14, 15, etc...) to create accounts--without or with parent/guardian supervision (like, for example, Scratch's policy); or, if it should just be teachers creating accounts for classes. And if students (children of whatever age) are encouraged to create accounts, what protections are there to safeguard their information?

    Thanks again in advance,

    Matt

Given your situation, I would suggest having the teacher create and share anonymous student accounts such as:

    msmc1
    msmc2
    msmc3
    ...

The teacher will know who the kids are, but no one else.

I can make clear that siftr.org (or any educational sites shared by field day) does not share any information from any user or project unless we are working directly with an academic institution that has an IRB approved human subjects protocol.

    Does that help?
