    ARIS Android Testing needed!

    Based on the huge amount of work done by the team at Oregon State University, our group at UW Madison has a working version of the Android client built. It still needs work, but could really use a bit of field testing.

    Installation is super easy, open a browser on your android device, navigate to https://github.com/ARISGames/aris-android-client/releases and touch the newest .apk file

    It will download and install.

    Use this thread to report back any findings.

    Note: The android version has some significant limitations including:
    1. No support for AR, QR, Decoder or iBeacon triggers
    2. No notebook

    Hey ARIS-Team, absolutely love ARIS.

    Made a small game (just the plaque from the tutorial video) and it works flawlessly on iOS. However with the Android version, I cannot get to the AR-view (camera view).

    When I start my own game, the screen just stays white. I can swipe from the left and get the menu, but since not much is implemented that doesn't help.

    Is this a problem on my end or is the Android version not ready yet?

    Thanks again and love it so far.

    Unfortunately, we don't have funding to build the AR camera function for Android just yet. We likely need to find another $5k to get that part built.

    I did get to check out the Android build last week. Just to make sure expectations are not out of whack, those giving it a go should know that it's in a pretty rough state as of yet and, as @djgagnon mentions, there are several features that are not implemented.

    Parts of the screen block each other, many crashes, etc. It's really cool that this exists, and hopefully excites those who might be able to get it the rest of the way there, but it's not ready for primetime.

    Chris,

    I'd love to hear your specific reactions. Where does text block? When does it crash? We are planning on compiling a list of these things and trying to identify the most pressing bits so we can say that something functional exists with well defined limitations.

    Sure, I'll put together some notes and screenshots. I would guess too that screen size is a difficult variable to handle. I'm working on a Nexus 7, 1920x1200.

    Hey, I'm trying to test ARIS on android but it does not let me login using my account. It says that the login server could not recognize the account.

    Did you try uninstalling it and reinstalling it? I'm a 90's kid so that's our answer to everything.

    Hey I found a fix to my problem. Since I am from Finland I had used öäå in my password and that password worked in apple version of the game, but logging in with android version triggered this error. :lol:
